Spiegel
Verlag Rudolf Augstein publishes the weekly
magazines DER SPIEGEL and MANAGER MAGAZIN. Involvement
in the television market started in 1988. The cooperation
with the Development Company for Television Programs dctp
secured fixed broadcasting slots. Since 1988, SPIEGEL
TV MAGAZIN has been moderated by Stefan Aust
and Maria Gresz. The success of the program, which is
a television adaptation of classic SPIEGEL journalism,
lead in 1990 to the establishment of SPIEGEL
TV GmbH, a 100 percent subsidiary of the SPIEGEL
publishing house. In 1991 a share was acquired in dctp.
Presently there are five different SPIEGEL TV formats
broadcast on VOX, RTL and SAT.1. Since 1994 SPIEGEL TV
also produces the news programs of VOX and a magazine
program for the Swiss station SF2. SPIEGEL TV produces
more than 500 minutes of programming every week. The 140
employees of SPIEGEL TV set the standard for television
journalism of the nineties - with productions that have
been premiered with the Grimme Prize, the Golden Lion
and numerous gold, silver and bronze medals at the New
York Film Festival.
In May of 2001 SPIEGEL TV joined forces
with dctp to launch the new metropolitan television
"XXP-Das Informationsprogramm"
in Berlin.
